Found this a little while ago. It was an all-nighter Christmas gift for my cousin, and also one of the few times I've painted with watercolor. The color looks more yellow than it really is due to those warm incandescent lights that make old houses feel homey.

Maquette!

Here are some photos of my very first maquette! It was a lot of fun to do.. probably the most fun I've had all semester. Super Sculpey is nice to work with, though it does get really soft after a while if your hands are kinda hot, so doing thin areas like the eyes were pretty challenging.

I know in the last post I said that I needed to go to workshops.. but it's been hard for me to find time or energy for them with all the homework I've been given every week. Hopefully I can go to some during summer. In the meantime, here are some quick 2 minute drawings that I did in class. They're all the same model, but the goal was to characterize and exaggerate proportions and stuff. The model we had that day was really great - he really got into character and did some nice dynamic poses that were a lot of fun to draw. I've never seen him model in any of my other classes before, but hopefully he'll be back some time.

Where are all the bodies?

I realized that most of the work posted on my blog are heads - not too many full figure drawings. This led me to go through my stack of in-class drawings, only to find a few that I felt were somewhat decent. It made me see that I really need to start hitting those workshops...

Anyway, here are some more drawings from Heads & Hands 2. Some are attempts at characterizing the models which was a nice change. We also started using pastels in class, which was a whole new experience for me. Unfortunately, I didn't have the soft pastels that we were supposed to have, so I was limited to a few colors of nupastel, which I have used before, but not to "paint" with. I also started learning Corel Painter in my Illustrative Digital Imaging class - extremely frustrating at first, but watching a couple tutorials helped.

Whoa.. an update

A self-aging assignment (scary), head studies, some hands, digital painting practice with screencaps, random skull thing to try out a custom brush, and some photo manipulations. I don't think I would normally post up photo manipulations, but they were assignments and I kinda like how they came out, so I thought I'd share them. Sorry for the bad scans. =/

Just a small update. I think I might adjust some stuff on the painting a bit.. some time before the end of the semester...

So.. I decided that it was about time for me to actually post something on here. These are some works from past semesters. They're in chronological order, I think.. oldest ones at the bottom and newest ones on top.

In-class drawings from Heads & Hands. Some of these lasted for more than one class session.
My roommate, niece, and self portrait. These were assignments, so I spent a lot more time.. at least on the portrait of my niece. I left Ryan's hat alone.. not sure if I really wanna finish that one *shakes fist at the hat* and I kinda rushed through my self portrait. I felt weird having to look at myself in the mirror while drawing... *sigh* I draw slow.. =/

Perspective.. Oh man, did I struggle with these.. storyboard, 2pt, 1pt, atmospheric, and isometric.

And here's the first assignment that I spent a long time working on: a still life for Analysis of Form. I spent some ridiculous amount of time on this one.. like 40 hours or something, but it was my first semester and I think I learned a lot from doing it.

Yeah.. so that's all I have for now. Hopefully I'll have the energy to do some stuff worth posting this semester and keep the blog going.
